This section provides summaries of research studies which reveal the prevalence and incidence of corporal punishment - how often children are hit - and the kinds of punishments involved. Some of the studies review attitudes towards the use of corporal punishment as a "disciplinary" measure in bringing up children. The studies which cover children's own views and experiences are collected together on the Research and children pages.

The Global Initiative welcomes additions to this section: please send details of other studies, with full references, to info@endcorporalpunishment.org
