Date: May 2005West and Central Africa: report calls for law reform to end legalised violence against childrenThe third of nine regional consultations being held in connection with the UN Secretary General’s Study on Violence against Children takes place in Bamako, Mali from May 23 to 25 2005. The Global Initiative to End All Corporal Punishment of Children is submitting the third in a series of reports developed for the consultations. The report in French which is the predominant language of the region - calls on all states to explicitly prohibit all corporal punishment, linking law reform with awareness-raising on children’s right to protection.
