New resource on positive discipline

A comprehensive manual on positive discipline which takes a practical approach to parenting children of all ages without the use of corporal punishment is published this month. Written by Child-Clinical Psychologist and Professor Joan E. Durrant, Canada, it explains in simple terms what positive discipline is and gives concrete examples and exercises to show how it works in practice.

The manual was piloted in Asia with professionals working with parents. It was found that while specific examples of parent-child conflict may be more relevant to some countries than others, the fundamental principles of positive discipline are universal, applicable in all countries.

Positive Discipline: What it is and how to do it, published jointly by Save the Children Sweden and the Global Initiative to End All Corporal Punishment of Children, was launched in its English version on 11 September in Manila and Fiji. There are already plans to translate it into Romanian, Spanish, Thai, Korean and Bahasa Indonesia.
