Global Initiative launches e-newsletter
Moves towards prohibition of corporal punishment of children are accelerating worldwide: new laws are being enacted which include explicit prohibition and repeal legal defences such as “reasonable chastisement”, the “right to correct”, etc; campaigns by governments and non-government organisations are being carried out to promote positive, non-violent methods of childrearing; new research is being undertaken to show the full extent of corporal punishment of children; and the issue is being debated in local and national media.
To keep people informed of these developments, the Global Initiative has launched a bi-monthly e-newsletter. The first issue includes summary statistics on progress towards universal prohibition, information on bills currently before parliaments, details of new research, publications and campaigns, a selection of global media coverage on corporal punishment, and brief information on the work of human rights treaty monitoring bodies.
Issue 1 (February 2008) is being sent to supporters of the Global Initiative and others we have been in touch with. It is available to download as a pdf. If you would like to be added to the mailing list, please contact info@endcorporalpunishment.org.
