Committee against Torture recommends prohibition
The Committee Against Torture, monitoring compliance with the Convention against Torture, has echoed the recommendation of the Committee on the Rights of the Child that New Zealand should prohibit corporal punishment in the family. The Committee against Torture issued its concluding observations (CAT/C/CR/32/4) after examining New Zealand’s third periodic report under the Convention in May 2004. The Committee on the Rights of the Child had recommended prohibition in October 2003.
